when you read between the lines

as i sat and watched the news the other day something very odd and funny struck me , its called the art of spin and hows its used in the news .. to some people this is nothing new but to others it may seem as funny and absurd to you as it did at the time to me .


so this was the news story - employment rate in newfoundland is up from so and so time ( i wasn't really listening at this point but this is where it sucked me in ) , and I took this as all well and good but then my brain kicked in ...

so i though about how they got these numbers and it struck me like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag , of course the employment rate has gone up cause alot of people that didn;t have jobs* are or have moved away . Now this may seem like it has nothing to do with the employment rate at all but thats where you are wrong . the base number ( population of the province ) has gotten smaller therefore the same number of people with jobs divided into this base number will give you a higher percentage of employment , so nothing has really changed (the actual amount of people with jobs hasn't changed ) except I can't get those five mins of spin from the local news back , and you know now that i look at it the art of spin is everywhere ,

just makes me laugh a little to myself that people actually buy this stuff

* or in some cases as i know , many people that had jobs moved to other provinces for better jobs ( who could blame them ) and other people took there place or will take there place but this has no effect on the equation because one job is still one job , no matter how you cut it

so thats what i;m thinkin about as i turn 28 in a half an hour lol
